Welcome!

On behalf of the College of Nursing, I would like to welcome all nursing graduate students to the University of North Dakota! Whether you are a RN to MS student, a master's student or a doctoral student, you have made an important decision to further your education in nursing and you deserve to be congratulated!

Graduate education in nursing at UND offers many avenues for students. Advanced practice nurses have become an integral part of the nation's health care system, providing key services to a wide variety of patients/populations. Additionally, nurse educators are needed to meet the demands of the increasing nurse faculty shortage. At UND, students may pursue advanced nursing education with concentration in areas of:

Master's Degree

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Anesthesia
  • Gerontology Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Public/Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Nurse Education

Doctoral Degree

  • PhD in Nursing - prepares the student to be a nurse scientist and educator

The College of Nursing recognizes that practicing nurses may not be able to relocate to complete their graduate education. The College of Nursing now offers many of its graduate courses, and even entire programs, online (excluding anesthesia coursework), with clinical placements as near the students' home location as possible.

Doctoral students may take their courses online, and meet once or twice a year at "intensives" - held either on campus or at a Regional Nursing Research Conference. This format has been proven effective for other nursing programs and has been adopted in the last year by the UND College of Nursing.

Our faculty and administrators are here to support you, and we work to create an "open door" atmosphere. If you have questions or simply want to get to know us, please don't hesitate to stop by the College of Nursing building, call or email.

You are choosing to advance your degree during exciting times in the nursing field. Once again, welcome to the University of North Dakota and to the College of Nursing!
