North Dakota and the midwest have the highest number of older adults per capita in the nation. With the increasing number of elderly persons, there is growing a need for nurses who have expertise in gerontological nursing. In response to this community need, the University of North Dakota College of Nursing added the Gerontology Nursing specialization to the Graduate Program. The courses offered prepare nurses to become either a Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) or a Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (GCNS).
