Welcome to the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Programs website at the University of North Dakota. Thank you for taking the time to explore our educational offerings.

The purpose of these programs is to increase the number of nurses prepared as advanced psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialists (PMH-CNS) or as advanced psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMH-NP). These educational programs have two areas of emphasis, which are provision of care for culturally diverse populations in rural and underserved areas and collaboration with interdisciplinary professionals.

The curriculum is designed for the adult patient, however a plan of study can be developed to meet certification and practice criteria in Child/Adolescent (CNS) or family (NP) Psychiatric/Mental Health.

Upon completion of the requirements for the PMH-CNS or PMH-NP programs, graduates are eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification examination and obtain prescriptive privileges. For individuals who already have a Master’s Degree in Nursing, we offer Post Master’s Certificates.

For more information about our programs, please view the side links. We would love to hear from you! Eleanor Yurkovich, EdD, RN Program Director Psych-Mental Health Nursing Program
