Research comprises a significant portion of the activities at the University of North Dakota College of Nursing. Faculty members effectively compete on the local, regional and national levels for research funding. Faculty and students have presented their work and are being recognized locally, regionally, nationally and internationally for their research.
Examples of awards won recently include the Sigma Theta Tau International Research Dissemination Award, the Western Interstate Nursing Research Society Poster Competition Award, and the Midwest Clinicians Research Award.
Active research programs within the UND College of Nursing includes: Chronic Psychiatric Mental Health for Native American populations, Transcultural Research, Cardiovascular Risk of Preeclampsia, Domestic Violence, Obesity Prevention of Preschool Children, Use of Complementary Therapies for Menopause, Ethical Decision Making, Diabetes and Hispanic Migrant Farm workers, Pressure Ulcer Research, Breast Cancer Proteomics, and Nutritional Interventions for GI Distress. The UND College of Nursing faculty are deeply involved in research with interdisciplinary and nursing practice colleagues.
In the mid- 1980's, the UND College of Nursing graduated its first master's degree student. With the addition of a graduate program at the college, nursing research has become an integral part of student and faculty member's work. Students have opportunities to work with a faculty member on research through funded programs such as the EPSCoR program, Graduate Research Assistantships, Honors Research, and other collaborative opportunities.
